Indoor Guard 2005

Accomplishments

At the TJHSST competition, the 'a.R.e' Guard performed their show "Musical Geometry" for the first time in competition in the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) competitive category of Independent Regional 'A'. The show itself, as it's name implies, involves the 'a.R.e' Guard executing their artistic sport around the geometrical forms of a triangle, circle, and square to the music of "Triangle Man", "The Circle of Life", and "Hip to be Square", which was arranged by, Edison Band student, Matt Pablo. When the competition was complete, the 'a.R.e' Guard had taken first place out of three Independent Regional 'A' units competing with a score of 71.3. This was the first of many successes yet to come.

Over the next two months, the 'a.R.e' Guard would compete in four more competitions. The first of these was the AIA invitational competition at Herndon High School on February 19th, 2005. Like at TJHSST, the 'a.R.e' Guard competed in the AIA competitive category of Independent Regional 'A' and again took first place with a score of 89.4. In addition to recieving the First Place honors, the 'a.R.e' Guard was awarded a bonus by being advanced to the next competitive category of Independent 'A'. This advancement signified that the judges considered the 'a.R.e' Guard's abilities to be much more advanced than what they had originally believed when they had been placed in the Independent Regional 'A' category.

Under this new category, the 'a.R.e' Guard entered their next competition at Mills E. Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia, on March 5th, 2005. Here the 'a.R.e' Guard competed against five other Independent 'A' Winter Guards and with a score of 70.9 again took the first place honors. The last competition prior to the AIA finals was the Edison High School AIA Invitational on March 19th, 2005. With a score of 75.3, the 'a.R.e' Guard again took top honors and were now set for the AIA season finals.

The AIA Finals competition was held the weekend of 2-3 April 2005 at Powhatan High School in Powhatan, Virginia. This competition consisted of a Preliminary round that occurred on Saturday, April 2 and then a Final round that occured Sunday. For the 'a.R.e' Guard, the competition would put them against seven of the best Independent 'A' Winter Guards in the region. With a score of 77.20 in Prelims, the 'a.R.e' Guard easily advanced as one of the top four Independent 'A' Winter Guards to the finals competition. After finals, with a score of 77.05, the 'a.R.e' Guard earned the Silver Medals in an outstanding second place finish.
