The Edison High school "Marching Eagles," comprised of band, colorguard, and percussion students from across the school community, has a proud tradition of excellence and achievement. The band is recognized as one of the finest marching programs of its size on the east coast.
The Marching Eagles are the 8 time TOB Chapter 12, Group II Champions, and have received 5 bronze and 2 silver medals at the TOB Atlantic Coast Championships. In 2006, the Marching Eagles switch to the USSBA circuit. In addition to being undefeated is USSBA (A) competition, they are the 2006 Mid-Atlantic States and All-States Group 3A Champions. Locally, the band performs at all home Edison football games, and in selected exhibitions throughout Virginia. Many of the student musicians within the band have received individual honors at the local, regional, state, and national level. In 2004 the band was recognized by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for excellence in musical performance. The Marching Eagles has been featured on the Fox 5 morning news, and has appeared twice on Fairfax County Public Schools Red Apple 21.
Marching season is already here. See the pre-season page for information on the 2007 Marching eagles schedule and information. Also, signup lists for 2007-2008 committees are up as well as lists for Chaperones and Pit Crew for the 2007 Marching season. There is also a now a signup for Pep Band chaperones. Current parents have received an email with password for access. If you are a new parent, please email the President for an access code. A brief document on USSBA for Edison parents has been created by Debby Lelansky.
This year the band is trying to do as much as possible via electronic means. Email and this web site will be the primary means of communication. The hope is that the information, particularly changes, can be distributed more quickly and not left sitting in the Band Room. It is also better for the environment. From this year's packet, there are only 5 items that need to be printed and returned: The Student Fundraising Financial Obligation (H), the Blanket Permission Slip (K), the Health History form (J), the T-shirt order form (L) and the Eagle Catering volunteer form (E). All other items lists previously done via paper (such as the other volunteer sheets and the closing night performance and diner) can be done electronically via sign up lists on the web site or email.
As an experiment, this year's Summer Packets are being distributed via email from the student list. We have already had some feedback on this and the download on this site. The Full Summer Packet is now also available for download from the website either as a regular zip file, as a self-extracting zip or you can download each file separately from the download directory. The original zip file (SM2007.zip) was missing two files which can now be downloaded separately, the Blanket Field Trip Form and the Medical Information Form. They will also be available during Band Camp.
T-shirt and sweatshirt order forms were also left out of the packets. They are part of the new zip files or can be downloaded here.
